Shanghai, April 17, 2014 - Dr. Chunyuan Gu, Senior vice president of ABB Group and head of ABB North Asia and China, was honored with International Vision Award at the second "Pudong Annual Economic Figures" ceremony held on April 16. Organized by Shanghai Pudong Radio & Television, the event highlights frontrunners in China's economy who have contributed to Pudong's development through their international perspective, social responsibility and innovative breakthroughs.

The "Pudong Annual Economic Figures" Award Committee believes that Dr. Gu's long-term commitment to promoting the development of a world-leading robotics industry in Shanghai has successfully created a highly localized value chain for industrial robots. His outstanding efforts have led the way for Shanghai to become China's industrial robotics center and reach new heights in industrial development. For many years, Dr. Gu has been committed to promoting the development and localization of automation technology and industries; has championed the R&D, production and application of energy efficient technologies and products; and has actively called for the rapid transition towards more sustainable manufacturing through the effective use of high-end technology and equipment.
The "Pudong Annual Economic Figures" Award is one of many activities organized by Pudong District in honor of Pudong's "opening-up and development" and has won strong support by all levels of government and the community in Shanghai. This year's selection focused on "how to seek more powerful drivers of innovation; how to achieve a more scientific transformation; and how to promote intelligent, cross-border development in this new era for Pudong". The second annual award used the keywords "responsibility, innovation, challenge, and influence." Over a period of 10 months, the jury considered many candidates and chose 16 winners according to their performance, social influence, score through Internet voting and a number of other factors. Out of the winners, three awards were given for Innovative Entrepreneurship, Industry Leadership and International Vision.
Meanwhile at the recently held 2014 China Automation Conference's 12th Annual Award Presentation Ceremony, Dr. Chunyuan Gu won the prestigious "Management Award". In total ABB won several awards at this conference, including Best Employer, Innovative Product, and Newsworthy awards among others. Dr. Chunyuan Gu joined ABB in 1989 and has served as head of Robotics R&D for ABB Group for many years. He is a globally recognized expert in the field of industrial robotics and automation. In 2010, Dr. Gu previously served as the head of ABB Robotics for North Asia and China and was promoted to lead ABB's Discrete Automation and Motion Control business in the region in early 2012. Two years later he became the first local Chinese head of ABB North Asia and China and chairman and president of ABB (China) Limited.
