Shanghai, October 26, 2015 -- ABB, the world's leading power and automation technology group, today celebrated the 20th anniversary of its Motors & Generators business in China, and showcased a number of locally-developed new motors including the M2BAX series and NMI series that help customers of various sectors improve energy efficiency and lower environmental impact. To date, ABB energy-efficient motors have helped local customers save more than 24 billion kWh of electricity, equivalent to the power consumption of about 50 million people for one year, calculated based on the residential power consumption per person in China.

ABB has been promoting local R&D, production and marketing of Motors and Generators business since it introduced energy-efficient low-voltage motors into China in 1995. Now the local business unit has a complete product portfolio covering energy-efficient motors, generators and mechanical transmission products as well as service business. To meet the diversified needs of customers, ABB offers custom design based on their specific requirements in addition to mass produced standard motors.

At the 20th anniversary ceremony of China Motors & Generators business, ABB celebrated local production of the 5,200,000th low-voltage motor and 9,000th high-voltage motor. During the event, ABB also showcased the M2BAX series including a variety of types developed based on the product platform, such as the M2SE smoke extraction motor and M2BAX marine motor which feature high energy efficiency and structural design better geared to the application environment of Chinese customers. A number of new models of NMI modular induction motor and NXR cast iron motor, launched in 2014, have also been developed this year, adding up to a full range of products and solutions for customers.

ABB's efficient and reliable motors have been widely applied to many areas in China, such as port and airport construction, rail transportation, food and beverage. In port, ABB motors help the automated terminal of Qingdao Port achieve stable power supply for fast and continuous stacking in loading and unloading, improving the throughput capacity and automation level of the terminal. In food and beverage, ABB motor together with reducer and drives can be combined into a drive system to provide a complete solution for material handling, from electrical control to machinery, offering optimized system design for customers and save the resources spent in selecting products of different brands so as to improve productivity. In rail transportation, ABB deliver traction motors to railway and subway construction in many cities at home and abroad, serving the local market and also helping Chinese enterprises go global in response to China's Belt and Road initiative.
