ABB today celebrated the 25th anniversary of its first joint venture company in China - ABB Xiamen Switchgear Company. At the ceremony celebrating the anniversary, ABB also launched the innovative ZX2 AirPlus - the company's latest eco-efficient medium-voltage GIS, which helps satisfy the growing need for green technologies and supports sustainable development. Li Huiyue, vice mayor of the city, and government officials from Xiamen Torch High-Tech Industrial Development Zone and Xiang'an district, attended the ceremony with around 200 ABB customers and partners from across China.
ABB Xiamen Switchgear Company was founded in 1992, specializing in the R&D, production, sales and service of medium-voltage switchgears and circuit breakers. The company has developed into a world-leading manufacturer of these products, with 260,000 units of switchgear panel and 600,000 units of circuit breaker delivered to domestic and overseas customers. The products have been extensively installed in over 3,000 key projects in China and worldwide, such as the Great Hall of the People, the Three Gorges project, Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, and an Iranian oil field.

As a company deeply rooted in Xiamen for 25 years, ABB Xiamen Switchgear Company is also an active supporter of Xiamen's infrastructure construction and talent development. The company has provided reliable equipment and professional service to Xiamen's key projects, such as the Gaoqi Airport, Xiamen Metro, Xiamen-Zhangzhou Cross-sea Bridge, and Xiamen International Conference & Exhibition Center. Through cooperation with Xiamen University of Technology and other educational foundations, the company offers joint labs, scholarships and stipends to support local education and develop talent.
An Official from the Xiamen Torch High-Tech Industrial Development Zone said that the expansion of ABB in Xiamen has also boosted the development of local industrial value chain and attracted technological talents. ABB's success has inspired many upstream and downstream enterprises to invest in Xiamen. He sees a great contribution from ABB to Xiamen's economic and social development, and to building Xiamen into a high-end equipment manufacturing base. ABB has eight local companies and 3,000 employees in Xiamen. It has located its world largest low-and medium-voltage switchgear R&D and manufacturing bases there, featuring key products including high-voltage GIS, medium-voltage and low-voltage switchgears and circuit breakers, outdoor switchgears, low-voltage door entry system and smart home system. Currently ABB is investing RMB2 billion (USD300 million) in its new industrial hub in Xiang'an district. After completion, the hub will become ABB's largest and most advanced manufacturing base globally, with the establishment of ABB's advanced 1,200kV UHV test field as well as its second largest R&D center for low-voltage electrical system - MNS® low-voltage switchgear lab.
