Beijing, January 13, 2015 - The world's leading power and automation technology group ABB recently reached an agreement with Luoyang Petrochemical Engineering Corporation/Sinopec, a subsidiary of Sinopec Engineering (Group) Co. Ltd. (SEG) to provide a 220 kV main substation solution for a crude oil processing project at the Atyrau Refinery in Kazakhstan, guaranteeing reliable power supply for enhanced local production.
In this turnkey project, ABB will be responsible for the design, supply, installation, commissioning, start-up and on-site service of the substation as well as training of civil engineers. ABB's key devices for the project will include transformers, switchgears, distribution room and SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system. The substation is expected to be delivered in October 2015.
In project implementation, ABB will make full use of its global footprint advantages to achieve high-quality on-time delivery through collaboration among its teams in China, Finland and Kazakhstan. The project is led by ABB Finland and the design of the substation will be done by ABB's Kazakhstan team in order to better meet local design specifications and specific requirements of the local power supplier.
Jinquan Zhang, Head of Power Systems Division, ABB AMEA (Asia, Middle East and Africa) and China, said: "We are very pleased to work together with Sinopec to provide integrated power solution for this project. With our leading products, technologies and solutions as well as our global footprint, ABB can fully support Chinese enterprises to go global and actively explore overseas markets."
This is the second cooperation between ABB and Sinopec at the Atyrau Refinery projects in the past two years. In 2012, ABB also provided an advanced 220 kV substation solution to the new aromatic hydrocarbon plant of Atyrau Refinery built by SEG. The Atyrau Refinery, operated by KazMunayGas, is one of the three major refineries in Kazakhstan.
ABB is the world's leading supplier of turnkey air-insulated, gas-insulated and hybrid substations with voltage levels up to 1,100 kV.
