Beijing, December 14, 2015 -- ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has been recognized with nine local companies ranking among "2015 China Top 100 Electric Companies", according to the ranking announced by Electric Age magazine at the award ceremony held in Beijing last Friday. ABB also won two other prestigious awards, "China's Top 10 Electric Companies by Competitiveness" and "China's Top 10 Electric Companies by Innovation Capability".

"China Top 100 Electric Companies" is an annual award hosted by Electric Age, a leading trade magazine sponsored by the China Machinery Industry Information Institute. This is the 16th year of the awards which have become the annual focus of the Chinese electric industry. The list is a barometer of China's electric industry, fully reflecting the current development of companies in the industry.
"Faced with multiple challenges such as the economic slowdown in 2015, China's electric industry has continued to follow a development path driven by innovation and increased industrial restructuring and upgrading to shape core competitiveness. Against the slowing trend, the industry witnessed extraordinary results. Going forward, Made in China 2025 and the upcoming 13th Five Year Plan will continue to drive China's sustainable economic growth and inject new dynamism into the industry", the deputy party secretary of the China Machinery Industry Information Institute, Mr. Zhou Baodong, said.
In 2015, ABB maintained strong investment to deepen its localization strategy and boost business growth. In Xiamen, the ABB Xiamen Industrial Hub, on which ABB will invest 2 RMB billion, officially broke ground and began construction. By integrating ABB's local companies, the Hub will optimize the resources allocation and further consolidate the foundation of ABB's business development in the city. In Zhuhai, ABB set up ABB Robotics (Zhuhai) Co., Ltd. to meet the fast growing market demand for industrial robots in South China. In Urumqi, ABB set up its 16th comprehensive service center in China. The center offers convenience and professional services to customers in northwestern China and furthermore, expanded coverage of ABB's service network in China.
Based on strengths in R&D, engineering and services, in 2015 alone ABB has enabled several ultra-high-voltage direct current (UHVDC) power transmission lines such as Lingzhou to Shaoxing, Jiuquan to Hunan, and Shanxi to Nanjing links. Innovative technologies are also provided to the State Grid Corporation of China for building 13 new generation smart substations. In the fields of industry, transport and infrastructure, ABB's efficient and reliable products and solutions have helped more customers to improve productivity and reduce energy consumption. In 2015, ABB provided green propulsion system for the Chinese mega-crane vessel Hua Tian Long, supplied tailored low-voltage motors for the stacker application in the automated terminal at Qingdao Port, and installed ABB robots at Changan Ford's Harbin-based auto factory for flexible production, supporting the industrial upgrading and transformation in China.
In 2015, ABB has introduced a number of new products such as the world's first truly collaborative dual-arm industrial robot-YuMi, the green and eco-friendly electric propulsion system-Azipod® D, the environment-friendly gas-insulated ring main units-Safe Air, Welcome IP HD series door entry system featuring highest-grade protection design, and so on. These innovative products and technologies are able to help customers improve productivity and energy efficiency, and create more value.
Along with the implementation of the Belt and Road initiative, many Chinese enterprises are actively exploring international market for new growth. Based on balanced footprint, global experience and leading technologies, in 2015 ABB signed contract with China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) to provide 420kV GIS to a combined cycle power plant project in Soyo, Angola, helping CMEC tap into the African markets; reached an agreement with Luoyang Petrochemical Engineering Corporation/Sinopec, a subsidiary of Sinopec Engineering (Group) Co. Ltd. (SEG) to provide a 220 kV main substation solution for a crude oil processing project at the Atyrau Refinery in Kazakhstan, guaranteeing reliable power supply for enhanced local production; provided MNS 3.0 low voltage switchgears to China National Non-metallic Materials Corporation (SINOMA) to expand presence in Africa market. ABB also further deepened its cooperation with other customers such as China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), Huawei Company and Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (ZPMC) to explore global market.
