Beijing, May 21, 2015 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, today celebrates the 20th anniversary of its joint venture in Beijing - ABB High Voltage Switchgear Co., Ltd. Beijing. Founded in 1995, the subsidiary has grown into a leading supplier for high voltage and medium voltage switchgears in China and its products have been widely used in a number of important Chinese national projects, such as 2008 Olympic Games sites in Beijing, 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, Shanghai Donghai Bridge Offshore Wind Farm, and Lanzhou-Xinjiang High-speed Railway.

Two new products are launched at the ceremony: Safe-V25 gas insulated switchgear (GIS), and SAFE-PTC gas insulated switchgear (GIS). Safe-V25 GIS helps to improve the electrical performance in modern grid to meet its demand for complexity upgrade and capacity improvement, and can be deployed in complex grid structures such as power, industry, and railways. SAFE-PTC GIS, with more compact structure design compared with its alternatives, can significantly improve the reliability of power supply.

Dr. Chunyuan Gu, Chairman and President of ABB (China) Limited, said at the ceremony: "The history of ABB High Voltage Switchgear Co. Ltd. Beijing is exactly the epitome of ABB's development in China. From production import for local sales when entering China market to today's full range of business activities including R&D, manufacturing, sales and services, ABB has been continuously localizing the entire value chain in China, to better meet the demand from local market and customers."

ABB has a wide range of smart power technologies that support connection of clean energy to the grid, UHV transmission, distributed power generation, smart substations and electric vehicle chargers, which help the entire electric value chain achieve efficient and reliable operation, and reduces the impact of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission on the economic growth.

ABB is actively participating in China's power infrastructure development by participating in 20 out of 28 high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission projects nationwide. In 2014, ABB provided converter valves and cooling systems to the Jinzhong 500KV HVDC power transmission project. This project aims to transport clean hydropower over a distance of 1,139 kilometers from the Jinsha River to Liuzhou, an industrial hub in Guangxi Province. In April, ABB announced that it would provide converter transformers and components including wall bushings and circuit breakers for the Lingzhou-Shaoxing ±800 kV ultrahigh-voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission link in China for a more efficient and reliable power transmission. ABB also took part in the construction of several next-generation smart substations of the State Grid Corporation of China by providing technical support to China's power system which is shifting from a traditional power grid to a "new-type" power grid.

Since the establishment of its first joint venture in China in 1992, ABB has been adhering its localization strategy of "In China, for China and the World." Currently, 90 percent of ABB China's revenues come from products, services and solutions locally manufactured and developed and its accumulative investment in China already reached $1.9 billion.

ABB is a Global 500 company and a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility, industry, and transport and infrastructure customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in roughly 100 countries and employs about 140,000 people. ABB has a full range of business activities in China, including R&D, manufacturing, sales and services, with 19,000 employees, 39 local companies, and an extensive sales and service network across 126 cities.
