Guiyang, December 9, 2014 - ABB, the world leader in power and automation technology, signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Strategic Cooperation with the Guiyang municipal government and the Guiyang Free Trade Zone days ago to explore full-scale in-depth strategic cooperation in areas such as energy, industry, transportation and infrastructure.

With the opportunities brought in recent years by China's Go West strategy as well as its own resources and ecology, Guizhou Province has experienced robust economic development. As the capital of Guizhou, Guiyang is an important hub of transportation and communication, an industrial base, and a commercial center in southwest China. Taking the development of high-speed rail as an example, the Guiyang-Guangzhou, Changsha-Guiyang, Guiyang-Kunming and Chengdu-Guiyang high-speed railway lines will all be gradually completed in the coming years, helping to create southwest China's "one-hour economic circle" with Guiyang as the center.

According to the MOU, ABB will use its advanced power and automation products and solutions to support Guiyang's sustainable development. ABB has green and efficient technologies in three major areas - smart grid and city, smart manufacturing and production, and smart home and building - that can help customers from utility, industry, transportation and infrastructure to reduce energy consumption, improve productivity and product quality and lower environmental impact, thus achieving industrial upgrading.

Dr. Chunyuan Gu, Head of ABB North Asia and Chairman and President of ABB (China) Limited, said: "Located in the southwestern interior of China, Guizhou has huge regional economic development potential. In the future, we will further broaden and deepen the scope of cooperation with Guiyang to ensure that we can actively participate in key projects under framework of the MOU. With energy-efficient smart products and solutions, ABB looks forward to establishing long-term partnerships with the Guiyang municipal government and local customers to explore sustainable development of the economy and environment together."

As the implementation of China's Go West strategy deepens, cities and regions in Western China are experiencing rapid development in the fields of power, industry, transportation and infrastructure, and the market potential has become increasingly prominent. Facing these opportunities, ABB is fully driving the implementation of its Next Level strategy. In the next three years, ABB will add 100 cities in China to its footprint, focusing on coverage in third- and fourth-tier Chinese cities as well as Central and Western regions that have greater market potential. Currently, ABB has a branch in Guiyang. The signing of the MOU will further promote the development of ABB's business both in Guiyang and the surrounding southwestern China.

ABB (www.abb.com) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility, industry, and transport and infrastructure customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact.
