ABB signed an agreement with Sinopec Engineering (Group) Co., Ltd. (SEG) in November 2016 to further deepen their cooperation in exploring global refining and chemical engineering market. According to the agreement, ABB will form a multi-level and comprehensive partnership with SEG and its subsidiaries to provide consulting, one-stop electrical and automation solutions as well as professional services for their overseas EPC projects.

SEG is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Sinopec Group which focuses on providing integrated engineering service and technical patent for domestic and overseas refining and chemical engineering market. It is also one of the premiere engineering companies in China. Up to now, SEG have designed and delivered a range of sizable and complex projects, demonstrating its remarkable competitive strengths. It made its first foray into overseas market in 1990 and has delivered projects with contract value of 10 billion dollars in the global refinery and petrochemical engineering market since 2000.

ABB and SEG have maintained a long-term partnership of mutual trust through close cooperation in SEG's overseas EPC projects such as the crude oil processing project at the Atyrau Refinery in Kazakhstan, the IRPC polypropylene project in Thailand and the RAPID (refinery and petrochemical integrated development) project in Malaysia. Through the new agreement, the two sides aim to build a tighter relationship for global market expansion by combining SEG's outstanding capabilities in resource integration, project management and implementation with ABB's leading technologies, rich experience in overseas projects and one-stop services.

In recent years, Chinese enterprises have speeded up into global market along with the intensification of globalization and the further enhancement of China's overall strength. With a business network covering some 100 countries around the world, and abundant overseas project management experience, ABB provides localized design, engineering, consultancy and services for Chinese enterprises' EPC projects in countries along the route of the Belt and Road Initiative, helping them to reduce costs and better control the business risks. To date, ABB has worked closely with Chinese enterprises such as China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC), China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec), China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), Northern Heavy Industries Group (NHI), China National Building Material Company (CNBM) and Harbin Electric Corporation in their projects across Asia, Middle East, Africa and Latin America.

On the coast of the Black Sea in Turkey, ABB was responsible for design, installment and commissioning of a complete set of integrated automation systems including boiler and turbine control and protection, generator and electrical system monitoring, desulfurization and the entire balance of pant as well as a large number of low-voltage (LV) switchgears for the Zetas 2x660 MW supercritical coal-fired thermal power generation project, contracted by Harbin Electric Corporation, in order to improve the operational efficiency and flexibility of the plant assets. The project is the largest thermal power project undertaken by Harbin Electric in Turkey's market, laying a firm foundation for it to further explore European and central Asian electric power markets.

In Izmir, another city of Turkey, CRRC Tangshan Co., Ltd, will provide 95 trains for the light rail line No.2 project in the city. The project has many requirements for locomotive traction motors in compactness, cooling, dustproof and moisture-proof capacities, material grade and mechanical strength of parts and components. In response, ABB optimized the design of traction motor, in order to fully meet the project requirements. Prior to this, ABB had provided the light-rail vehicle traction system solution for five modern 100% low-floor tramcars manufactured by Tangshan Railway Vehicle Co., Ltd. for Samsun, Turkey. Both parties have jointly expanded Turkey's rail market through close cooperation.

In Pakistan, ABB worked with NHI to provide more than 70 technically advanced and functionally reliable MNS3.0+M10x smart LV switchgears to Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited, Pakistan's largest fertilizer manufacturer, and offered motor protection, control, monitoring and management for the material transport project of its affiliated power plant. This will collect the motor operations data and give a timely alert in order to greatly enhance the plant's operation stability and safety. The project has laid a solid foundation for NHI's access to Pakistan's electric power market.

In Saudi Arabia, ABB provided Emax air circuit breakers, molded case circuit breakers (MCCB), soft starter, contactor and other high-performance LV products for the cement production line with a daily capacity of 6,000 tons contracted by CNBM, so as to provide reliable power for the project's steady production. So far, ABB's electrical products have been widely applied in overseas projects contracted by CNBM, helping it expand overseas market.

ABB also cooperated with Chinese partners in their EPC projects in other countries. For example, ABB provided LV switchgears for Ecuador's production lines, with a daily production capacity of 4,500 tons, contracted by China National Materials Group (SINOMA) International Engineering Co., Ltd.; and provided 420KV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) for Angola Soyo combined-cycle power plant undertaken by China Machinery Engineering Co., Ltd.

ABB (ABBN: SIX Swiss Ex) is a pioneering technology leader in electrification products, robotics and motion, industrial automation and power grids, serving customers in utilities, industry and transport & infrastructure globally.
