Dr. Chunyuan Gu, Senior Vice President of ABB Group, Chairman and President of ABB (China) Ltd. said," Today, we are here celebrating the 10th anniversary of ABB Jiangjin Turbo Systems, which is just the epitome of how ABB has grown together with China. For long, ABB has been providing environmentally friendly technology and products to help customers improve efficiency, cut energy consumption and achieve sustainable development. We will continue this effort via innovation to create more values for customers and support China to upgrade into a manufacturing power under national strategies such as the Belt and Road initiatives and Made in China 2025 plan."

As a joint venture of ABB China and CSIC-Chongqing Jiangjin Turbo & Charger Machinery, ABB Jiangjin Turbo Systems Co., Ltd. was founded in 2006 to provide first-class turbocharging technologies and products for customers worldwide. It has grown into the second largest manufacturing location and the sole production base of small- to medium-sized turbochargers for low-speed diesel engines of ABB Turbocharging. The company has also opened up six service stations in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Shanghai, Dalian and Qingdao, providing 7/24 original parts and service via a well-established local network.

Oliver Riemenschneider, Head of ABB Turbocharging global business unit, said, "For ABB Turbocharging, this joint venture becomes an important pillar in our global set-up. Looking ahead, more environmental friendly and efficient products will be needed not only in China but also for export markets. Also in this aspect, turbochargers will play an important role to reduce fuel consumption and emissions of the engines. Therefore, we will continuously invest, also in the skills of our people, to be able to support the engine builders in the further development of their engines to compete in local and global markets. This includes to design our products to meet international safety standards and to comply with the respective requirements of the classification societies around the world."

At the ceremony, ABB displayed a series of locally produced turbochargers, including the latest generation of A100 and A200 series for marine engines, TPR-series with Variable Turbine Geometry technology customized for the local locomotive market as well as CR-series customized for China River Shipping market. A160-L, the most compact single-stage turbocharger for two-stroke diesel engines will roll off the production line in Jiangjin this year. With innovative and energy-efficient technologies, ABB turbocharging systems can improve engine power output by 300% and reduce fuel consumption by 10%, thus contributing effectively to the further improvement of various industries on energy saving, emission reduction and environment protection.

Wang Qingzhou, Head of ABB Turbocharging hub business unit China, said, "Ten years ago, the very first turbocharger rolled off the production line in Jiangjin; and today, the company has become one of the most important manufacturing base for ABB Turbochargers worldwide. Sticking to the 'In China, for China and the World' strategies, we have significantly enhanced our local manufacturing and service capabilities in the past decade, to better serve the market both at home and abroad. It manifests itself in the centralized production of small-and-medium-size low-speed ABB turbochargers in this factory for the whole world."

ABB Turbocharging is at the helm of the global industry in the manufacture and maintenance of turbochargers for 500 kW to 80+ MW diesel and gas engines. More than 200,000 ABB turbochargers are in operation across the globe on ships, power stations, gen-sets, diesel locomotives and large, off-highway vehicles. In China, ABB Jiangjin Turbo Systems has been providing innovative products and services for a variety of key projects, among which are the engine retrofit of Xue Long, China's only polar research vessel, CSCL Globe, the largest container ship in the world then, the 4,400hp shunting locomotives of China Rail, the super five star cloud computing data center of China Mobile Communications Corporation.

On the fast track of development for years, Chongqing has become one of the most important bases of R&D and production of ABB in China. In addition to ABB Jiangjin Turbo Systems, ABB also has Chongqing ABB Transformers Co., Ltd. specialized in the design and production of power transformers, reactors, and HVDC converter transformers. It is a regional service center and a complete sales & service network with a staff of about 1,000 here. In June 2015, ABB's largest annual customer event - "ABB Automation World" took place in Chongqing, a metropolis in West China, demonstrating the importance the company attaches to the city and the west region. This March, Mr. Sun Zhengcai, Party Secretary of Chongqing Municipality, visited ABB Jiangjin Turbo Systems, showing the local governmental support for ABB's local operations.
