ABB China CIO honored with “China CIO Award of Excellence 2009”

ABB’s outstanding IT construction and operating performance acknowledged by experts from various industries

Beijing, February 1, 2010 -ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced that Andy Tidd, CIO of ABB North Asia Region and China, was honored with the "China CIO Award of Excellence 2009" and the "Best Operating Performance of the Year" by "CEOCIO China", a leading business and management magazine.

Tidd said, "These awards are not only a personal honour, but also recognize the consistent effort of our entire IT staff at ABB China. IT plays a key role in the operation of enterprise. These achievements would not be possible without the full support of ABB China and the dedication of our IT team. It is especially rewarding to receive the acknowledgement of experts from a variety of industries."

Under Tidd's leadership, the ABB China's IT department successfully integrated the IT systems of the company's local and global businesses and those of third parties and customers, enabling centralized Finance and HR Shared Services as well as connecting sales and operating processes. These efforts have allowed ABB China to address the ongoing challenges posed by the global financial crisis.

The China CIOs Award was introduced in 2002 and has become the most authoritative reward in China's IT industry. The 2009 program includes CIOs from Mainland China, Hongkong and Taiwan for the first time. This year's selection process focused on how CIOs help enterprises enhance core strengths and improve competitive advantages through IT construction and operation against the backdrop of the global financial crisis, China's economic restructuring, and economic cycle changes. This year's panel of judges is composed of professionals from business, government, the media and academic circles.

Beginning in June 2009, the editorial team of CEOCIO China interviewed over 400 companies in the Mainland, Hongkong and Taiwan out of a possible 3,000 candidate companies. 100 CIOs were recommended to the judges for final appraisal. Tidd, along with 49 other CIOs, was selected to receive the "China CIO Award of Excellence" for his outstanding achievements in 2009. In addition, Tidd also received the separate award of "Best Operating Performance of the Year."
