BEIJING, Nov. 14, 2012 -- ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, today announced that it was recently named the 2012 Best CSR performer among Equipment Manufacturers in China by Machinery & Electronics Business. Previously, ABB was among the top 20 2011 Outstanding CSR Enterprises at the 4th annual CSR meeting hosted by Southern Weekly.
Machinery & Electronics Business and Alliance PKU Management Consultants conducted a survey on CSR and sustainable development among equipment manufacturers in China from April to October of this year. The organizers selected the best CSR examples through a combination of questionnaires, research, and informal enquires. 12 companies, including ABB, stood out in the final review process to be named the 2012 Best CSR performers among Equipment Manufacturers in China.
Based on an evaluation method comprising business operations, social responsibility, social contributions, and public image, Southern Weekly conducted an assessment to determine the best CSR performers in China. At the 4th annual CSR meeting, ABB was subsequently selected as one of the top 20 outstanding CSR enterprises.

ABB upholds its responsibilities as a concerned corporate citizen by launching or participating in a variety of CSR programs covering a wide range of sectors such as education and environment protection.
ABB has consistently helped support local education in China by assisting impoverished students to attend school. Since 2005, ABB has made an annual donation of RMB 1 million to the ABB-New Great Wall Fund to help underprivileged university students complete their studies and improve their living conditions. So far, the program has benefited more than 2,000 students from universities all across China.
Environment protection is another key area that ABB places great importance on. In order to reduce the negative impact of desertification and ensure a stable power supply to the capital, ABB China, Inner Mongolia Electric Power Group, and Ordos Electric Power Bureau began Phase I of the 3-year long anti-desertification program in 2007. As of 2010, 2,670 mu of desert along the Uxin-Tuke Line (Uxin Banner to Tuke Town) had been reforested. Based on the initial success, in 2011, the 3 parties committed to phase II of the anti-desertification program, which will reforest about 45 hectares in total along the 110kV Uxin -Tuke high-voltage transmission lines in Ordos. In 2010, ABB donated 500,000 RMB to the Special Fund for Yangtze River Reforestation in the Chongqing area to reforest hundreds of mu of land along both sides of the river.
