ABB technology cuts power consumption of Macau Science Center by 15%

ABB Intelligent Building Control System helps Macau’s first world-class science education facility realize flexible lighting control

Beijing, August 1, 2011 -ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, equipped the Exhibition Center of Macau Science Center with its advanced ABB i-bus® Intelligent Building Control System, enabling the world class facility to more efficiently control the lighting of its 14 standing pavilions and cutting its energy consumption by 15%.

Intelligent buildings, through the structural design, equipment, service, and management, are optimized according to user demand to create an efficient, safe, comfortable and convenient environment. After observing and studying the indoor environment, ABB developed a tailored solution based upon scientific measurement and calculation. The specific solution has been adapted to the unique conditions of the building featuring a large footprint and numerous lighting circuits.

For this project, the ABB i-bus® Intelligent Building Control System manages more than 100 lighting circuits in 14 standing pavilions through a centralized visualization host. Operators can set unique parameters for each area, switch on and off the lights, and use manual controls as needed through the user-friendly interface on the intelligent control panel.

Compared with a conventional system, the ABB i-bus® Intelligent Building Control System can lower the lighting power consumption for the Exhibition Center by 15%, while decreasing the workload for management and maintenance staff and significantly reducing operating costs.

As the star of intelligent building solutions, ABB i-bus® Intelligent Building Control System boasts a successful 20 year track record. It is the world's first intelligent building control system to meet the requirements of the international ISO/IEC14543-3 standard, the European EN50090 standard, and China's national GB/Z20965 standard. The Macau Science Center, the first world-class science education facility in Macau, covers 62,000 square meters and includes three major sections: the Exhibition Center, the Planetarium, and the Conference Center. The project, with a total investment of 337 million Macao Pataca (equivalent to about RMB 276 million), was initiated in October 2006 and completed at the end of 2009. In January 2010, the facility officially opened to the public.
