ABB will supply QEV Philippines, a local e-mobility start-up, with 200 Terra 53 multi-standard electric-vehicle DC charging stations over the next three years, in an effort to promote e-mobility in the Philippines.
The first deployment will see four charging stations in various locations in Metro Manila by the first quarter of 2018, an important step in improving air quality and reducing carbon emissions on Manila's congested roads.
QEV Philippines, a joint venture between Philippine and Spanish investors, Endika Aboitiz and Enrique Banuelos, is in discussions with various automobile manufacturers to bring more electric vehicles to the Philippines. In 2018, the venture will seek government assistance to convert 10,000 jeepneys to e-jeepneys every year. These vehicles are the most popular means of public transportation in the Philippines. As its technology partner, ABB will support QEV Philippines' mission with its fast charging technology for all current and next-generation vehicles.
ABB will supply Terra 53 chargers, as part of a broader cloud-enabled network. Part of the ABB Ability™ portfolio of connected solutions, the network allows internet-based connected services, remote assistance, tailored diagnostic troubleshooting and repair, and remote updates and upgrades.
"ABB is delighted to be involved in bringing game-changing technologies to the transportation landscape in the Philippines," said Frank Mühlon, Head of ABB's Global Business for Electric Vehicle Charging. "This is an important step in moving away from fossil fuel-dependent vehicles to cleaner, more sustainable options."
The first three charging stations will be deployed in Shell gasoline stations, one on C. Raymundo Avenue, Pasig City, one at 5 E Rodriguez Avenue, Bagumbayan Libis, Quezon City, (Shell C5 Eastwood Northbound) and one at the SM Mall of Asia, Seaside Blvd., Pasay City. A fourth location is still being determined. The entire initiative, is expected to save over 350 million liters of oil per year, or 3 percent of total imported crude.
"Together with ABB, QEV is fully supporting the government's Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) modernizationprogram. Our vision to convert some 20,000 jeepneys into cleaner EVs will help operators reduce energy and maintenance costs," said QEV Philippines General Manager Audrey Penaranda.
