For spa regions, such as Busko-Zdrój, air quality and environmental care are one of the most important factors affecting its attractiveness as a tourist destination. By investing in distributed PV installations with a total capacity of over 700 kWp, the region can send a clear message to potential visitors that it cares about the environment.
Effective and reliable power generation from the sun would not be possible without inverters that are the heart of PV systems. They allow the conversion of DC to AC, as well as controlling the production of electricity and its transmission by adjusting the amount of electricity to the current demands.
The region of Busko-Zdrój benefited from the broad portfolio offered by ABB, which supplies string inverters with power ratings from 1.2 kW up to 120 kW. As a part of the project, ABB delivered single-phase and three-phase string inverters from 2kW to 30kW and technology used to block transmission of excess electricity to the grid (PMU). This equipment is of a significant importance to these public facilities including schools, offices, healthcare institutions, sport centers and water treatment plants as, due to legal constraints, they are not allowed to resell energy surplus or send it to the grid.
"The installed ABB inverters feature the VSN300 Wifi Logger Card, which enables both remote and local output energy monitoring and management of the installed asset. These boards allow the connection of the inverters to the Aurora Vision cloud platform that enables remote monitoring of the operations of the entire solar plant with great advantages for equipment maintenance and troubleshooting," said Rafal Krakowski, Business Development Manager for Renewable Energy Sources in ABB Poland.
The investment carried out within the Swiss-Polish Cooperation Programme has been completed in the first quarter of 2017 and will provide the region of Busko-Zdrój not only with environmental benefits, but also with financial savings. Depending on the sunlight available, photovoltaic energy may satisfy all the needs for energy of public facilities within the spa region or enhance conventional energy sources by reducing carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.
With more than 40 years of experience in inverter and power converter technologies and comprehensive portfolio of products, solutions, systems and services, ABB is uniquely positioned to support public facility PV installations.
