Easy customization for a user-friendly solution to switch motors, transformers and capacitor banks
ABB, the pioneering technology leader, today announced the addition of a new vacuum contactor for switching electrical loads to the medium voltage offering, suited for a wide variety of applications requiring a high number of operations: motors, transformers, capacitor banks. Fitted with proper fuses, the ConVac vacuum contactor is suitable for applications with fault levels up to 50 kA.
ABB aimed to make the new contactor solution more efficient for customers. ConVac provides a fast solution for customer needs to change accessories or auxiliary supply voltage, via plug and play accessories. It also makes installation easier and more convenient with a savings of up to 40 percent on wiring time, thanks to electrical connections plug and socket with embedded terminal box.
The high-quality device is designed to be a multi-standard solution suitable for IEC62271-106, UL347 and CSA C22.2 standards and is easy to apply, reducing up to 80 percent of the time needed to provide customized solutions. Flexible and user-friendly in installation, ConVac has a footprint up to 20 percent smaller than other solutions in the market and is reliable in extreme conditions, from -30 °C up to 55 °C. ConVac is the ideal solution for most demanding applications such as Motor Control Centers, soft starters and metal-enclosed capacitor bank switchgear.
Further key features are:
- Possibility to install the contactor in any orthogonal position, including upside-down
- Pre-designed mechanical and electrical interlock between two superimposed contactors
- Dielectric performances above IEC, UL, CSA standards and according GB/DL requirements
- Compatibility with self-supply from control power transformer
Andreas Brandt, Global Product Manager of ABB´s Indoor Products Control and Protection Products business, said: “We know our customers in the industry and in the utility segments are continuously working to optimize investments and maximize outputs. Besides advanced digitalization technology, this also requires reliable and effective switching solutions. ConVac is ABB’s new compact medium voltage contactor, flexible in installation, ready for extreme conditions and suitable for all applications requiring a high number of operations. It will further strengthen ABB’s market position in the global medium voltage products offering.”
ABB will be displaying this equipment at IEEE T&D 2018 in Denver, CO at ABB booth #2510 and at the Hannover Fair in Hanover, Germany at ABB’s booth in Hall 11, Stand A35. Detailed information about ConVac vacuum contactor, its advantages and main features are also available at the product webpage.
