ABB has started central inverter production in China

Beijing, China, May 15th, 2013 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has started its successful PVS800 central inverter production in China to respond to the very rapidly growing Chinese photovoltaic market needs. ABB has been manufacturing renewable products in China already for 10 years and this has made it possible to expand the central inverter production into China.

ABB has opened new production line for ABB's central inverter PVS800 product range in China. The new production line is located at ABB Beijing Drives Systems Co., Ltd., where also low voltage AC and DC drives, medium voltage drives and UPS products are produced. The production capacity of the line is over 500 MW annually. This new production line focuses on the 500 kW, 630 kW, 875 kW and 1000 kW central inverters. Due to the industrial design of the inverters, which is optimized for manufacturability, possible production line extensions can be fast and easily considered according to market needs.

"The Chinese photovoltaic market is very fast growing market and will be already this year the largest market in the world. The Chinese market is very competitive but with our latest 875 kW and 1000 kW product with top of the line efficiency and other advanced built in features we expect to be able to respond to challenging market needs," says Antti Suontausta, ABB's global product group manager for renewable energy power converters.

For the recently released 875 kW and 1000 kW inverters, we can now also offer with inverter housing. We expect to be very attractive choice for any serious project developer aiming for reliable photovoltaic power production in harsh conditions," says Mr. Jari Tukia, the local product group director for ABB renewables in China. "ABB's solar inverter range can be complemented by ABB's additional offering in medium and high voltage products and substations as well as grid stability equipment, all of which help ABB stand out from competition with other inverter manufacturers." he continues.

ABB has already first multi-megawatt project orders for the new production line. ABB is looking very positively on future project opportunities enhanced by the recently released 875 kW and 1000 kW central inverters, which provide very attractive inverter price but reduced over-all plant cost due to reduced amount of inverter housing and medium voltage component cost.

The ABB central inverter series, rated from 100 kW to 1000 kW, is designed for multi-megawatt PV power plants. The inverter series is based on ABB's highly successful frequency converter platform. This platform already has global sales of well over 100 GW over the last ten years.

ABB (www.abb.com) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 145,000 people. ABB has a full range of business activities in China, including R&D, manufacturing, sales and services, with 19,000 employees, 36 local companies, and an extensive sales and service network across 90 cities.
