Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Emsland (Germany), was engaged to produce a new cruise line ship for the international operating cruise company Norwegian Cruise Line, with headquarters in Miami, Florida. With a total length of 325 meters, a width of almost 42 meters and a weight of 163 GRT (gross registered tons) the "Breakaway Plus" will be the largest member of Norwegian Cruise Line's fleet. After delivery the vessel, with a capacity of 4,200 passengers, will captivate its guests with a unique ambience and design.
The traditional company from Papenburg trusts in the reliability of ABB's products and engaged the company once again with the production of various ship components. In keeping with the motto "One ABB" the customized components will be produced from different ABB locations in Europe and Asia. The ABB transformer plant in Brilon, Germany, will deliver a total of 19 transformers, including four propulsion transformers with of 11,250 kVA each and four 2500 kVA distribution transformers. The other eleven transformers have a performance between 550 and 2500 kVA and will be inserted in different parts of the cruise line giant.
The needed converters will be manufactured in Turgi, Switzerland, while the Azipods and switchgears will come from Finland and Italy. In addition, the generators will be manufactured by ABB in China.
