Enel Green Power, which is part of Enel SpA company, is dedicated to developing and managing energy generation from renewable sources at the international level. This main hydroelectric power station is located in Val Masino, at Sondrio province, Italy.

ABB was able to offer a solution that satisfied and match customer needs. The transformer was manufactured in Zaragoza factory (Spain), leading center for vacuum cast coil technology.

Dry-type transformers save some costs such as maintenance, mandatory fire protection and further security systems that were just options in the distant fifties. They also require shorter cables which can also save costs. The substation is installed on the mountainside where the environmental impact is a concern, making the dry technology option even more attractive.

In addition to the technical features, success also came thanks to the close cooperation between the factory and the Italian team, composed of sales support and transformer service. The service team took care of the removal of the existing oil transformer, modifications in the substation and the installation of the HiDry72.

HiDry72 dry-type transformers are the ideal solution for this type of situation where green transformers are highly sought while high power and large voltages are required. This ABB innovation is able to reach 63 MVA and 72.5 kV insulation level and already has references worldwide proving its efficiency.
