The cooperation between the Hungarian organization and the ABB Service Centre in Halle was a key factory for the success in securing the order. ABB, as the world largest transformer manufacturer has shown key competence in state-of-the-art transformer repair, resulting in E.ON trusting ABB's knowledge. The test order is for a mid-life factory repair for a 30 year old 120/22 kV 25 MVA non ABB Transformer.

Transformer service is a key factor for ABB in their Transformer business. It is important for ABB to visit the customer after delivery to ensure the transformer is performing and delivering the desired results.

The cooperation between the ABB units, leveraging global footprint and know-how, enabled ABB to put together a professional offer. The value of this solution was highlighted, including the vast experience ABB delivers and the documented quality in performing factory repair. ABB again showcases why it is the market leader in repair solutions.

Mid-life refurbishment

The Mature Transformer Management Program (MTMP) for fleet Assessment and the ABB Life Assessment program, which are the cornerstone of ABB's full service program, delivers an objective insight to the health, fitness and life expectancy of the transformer. The result is that the right capital expenditure decisions can be made. ABB´s unique diagnostic tools are drawn from its global design library.

These tools provide an assessment of the health, fitness and life expectancy of the transformer, quantify the impact of changes in the operating condition ensuring the correct decisions regarding overloading.

Repairing a transformer, instead of replacing it, can in certain cases lower capital maintenance cost dramatically and provide quicker turnaround than buying a new transformer. An economical evaluation should be done on a case by case basis.
