- Intel DCM integration unlocks additional digital potential of ABB Ability TM Data Center Automation
- New optimization scenarios
- Unprecedented levels of insight into data center behavior
ABB just released a new version of Decathlon® for Data Centers, now named ABB AbilityTM Data Center Automation ABB has consolidated its digital products and services in the ABB AbilityTM offering in order to facilitate the access to all these solutions for our customers. The added value lies in the advanced technologies, digital expertise and industry-specific know-how. Decathlon for Data Centers has consequently become another addition to ABB AbilityTM., with the integration of Intel® Data Center Manager (Intel® DCM). Intel DCM brings the ability to access both the power consumption and thermal information within a server to ABB AbilityTM Data Center Automation, allowing it to directly manage the efficiency of servers, racks and groups of servers in the data center.
While the integration of Intel DCM provides power and thermal monitoring data, ABB AbilityTM Data Center Automation provides asset management capabilities by enabling data center managers to correlate Intel DCM data with environmental data, maintenance records and controls to securely automate and manage both workflow and physical infrastructure of data centers.
The visibility, decision support and automation ABB AbilityTM Data Center Automation delivers can now be harnessed on this additional facet of the data center. Server power, temperature and airflow are all made available for use in monitoring and other advanced level functionality like aggregation, alarming, historizing, analysis, condition monitoring reporting etc.
"We are excited about this integration." said Jeff Klaus, General Manager of Data Center Management Solutions at Intel. "Tying detailed, server-level power and thermal telemetry into the overall data center management and control infrastructure makes all kinds of new and interesting optimization scenarios possible."
"This integration will extend the capabilities of ABB AbilityTM Data Center Automation from facility assets to also include CPU-level power and temperature data," said Richard Ungar, ABB North American Business Manager for Data Center Automation. "In addition to gaining insight into how your servers are behaving, you can also use the capability to seamlessly enhance your existing whitespace temperature profiling. Server inlet temperatures can be interwoven with in-row temperature sensors to provide finer-grained visibility of hot- or cold-spots."
ABB AbilityTM Data Center Automation is purpose-built for the data center industry based on ABB's industrial automation platform ABB AbilityTM System 800xA. It provides industrial-grade tools to control, monitor and optimize data centers and other mission critical infrastructure in the most reliable, efficient and sustainable way.
