July 5, 2017, Westerville, United States - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, received an order for cyber security services from Stora Enso, a leading provider of renewable solutions in packaging, biomaterials, wood and paper. Stora Enso chose ABB to provide cyber security services for the control systems that automate production processes in Sachsen Mill located in Eilenburg, Germany. The order includes the ABB Cyber Security Monitoring Service powered by ServicePort, which provides continuous remote monitoring, scheduled security reviews, and detailed recommendations to reduce vulnerabilities, all supporting a focused and sustainable strategy for control system security.

In July 2015, the German parliament passed legislation and in May 2016, the European Union adopted a directive ordering critical infrastructure service providers to implement new minimum information security standards. While these directives did not directly impact Stora Enso, they did emphasize the importance of cyber security discussions between Stora Enso and ABB. Stora Enso decided to improve cyber security for their industrial automation by implementing ABB's Cyber Security Monitoring Service powered by ServicePort to mitigate the risk of cyber security issues on the mill's recently upgraded ABB 800xA control system.

In 2014, Stora Enso's Eilenburg mill conducted the first trial of ABB advanced services delivered via ServicePort. ServicePort is a remote-enabled service delivery platform that helps ABB customers to obtain greater value from their equipment and processes. ServicePort includes automatic data-gathering and analysis software that helps to identify, categorize and prioritize issues that may need to be addressed by a service engineer to mitigate potential problems, and to ensure that plant production continues to be available, that processes run at target speeds, and that quality parameters remain within specification.

The ABB Advanced Services monitored in the trial included: the LV Drives Performance Service, Cyber Security Monitoring Service, Control Loop Performance and Quality Control System Performance Service.
