The Suralaya power plant generates more 3000 MW of power through four 400 MW generating units and three 600 MW generating units which make them as one of the largest power plant in Indonesia. This power plant is part of Java - Bali backbone of power system network. Any disruption in smooth flow of power have huge impact on stability of networks.

The GSU transformer are main link between generating unit and the transmission network, hence GSU transformer must be highly reliable. Few years back during regular inspection it was observed that bushings is reaching its end of life, hence Indonesia Power decided to replace the bushings of its Mitsubishi make 470 MVA 500 kV / 28 kV GSU having NGK make 500 kV bushings, with ABB bushings.
ABB as a leading supplier of bushings offered state of art, high quality and high reliable bushing, and offered one stop solution including on site replacement services ABB transformer service (TRES) offering. The TRES teams worked closely with factory and customers to understand the requirement and provided customized solutions. The contract period was 24 weeks. To meet the schedule requirement, bushings were air freighted from Sweden factory and extensive planning was done for site works. As the work need to be done outdoor, the team also considered the rainy session and its implication to make sure the project is completed in a timely manner. With the replaced bushing reliability of the transformer is assured.
