ABB signs agreement with CRRC Yongji at leading expo

ABB’s Power Grids signs a letter of intent (LoI) with CRRC Yongji, a major rolling stock manufacturer in China, to further support the expansion of China’s rapidly growing need for new traction infrastructure with high-power semiconductor modules.

A multi-million-dollar letter of intent for HiPak IGBT modules has been signed by ABB Power Grids, Semiconductors and China’s CRRC Yongji during the China International Import Expo (CIIE) held in Shanghai during November.

It is the latest agreement signed by ABB to support China’s rapidly expanding demand for high-speed trains and other traction applications. ABB’s IGBT technology is installed in over 1,000 locomotives and many EMU (electric multiple unit) high-speed trains. Many are used in high altitude regions and have an excellent field record.

CIIE hosted over 63 countries and more than 3,000 companies covering lifestyle, health, manufacturing, services, internet commerce and digital. ABB’s booth witnessed a high number of visitors keen to strengthen ties and explore the StakPak and HiPak IGBT modules. The high-power semiconductors are used extensively in HVDC (high-voltage direct current) grid applications.
