COM600 is expanding to include COM600S, designed for substation automation solutions in IEC and ANSI standard-based utility and industrial medium voltage distribution networks, and COM600F for distributed grid automation solutions in ANSI standard-based utility power networks, where it allows rapid fault detection, isolation, and power restoration during unplanned outages.
The COM600 series substation management units perform the combined role of a user interface, a communication gateway and an automation platform in a single physical unit. The COM600 units are inherently designed based on the IEC 61850 standard for communication and interoperability of substation automation devices, and are ideally integrated with Relion® or third-party protection and control relays as well as other communication devices such as the remote I/O unit RIO600, controllers and meters.
Introducing IEC 61850 as a default master protocol and the integrated web browser-based human machine interface (WHMI) as default, together with usability improvements of the logic processor, communication gateway, IEC 61850 GOOSE Analyzer and data historian, facilitates realizing a smart distribution automation solution. Other highlights of the new version include IEC 61850 Edition 2 support, improved cyber security - a hallmark for ABB - for easy and secure remote access via the COM600 unit's WHMI, secure user account management and increased operational security.
