Fast and easy replacement of aging installed base with ABB’s upgrading service for protection relays

ABB’s Maintenance Exchange Unit service has been extended to include the REX 521 relay. The upgrading service is an excellent way to replace an aging installed base and enjoy the benefit of the latest software developments at the same time. The result is safe relay operation as well as maximized process efficiency and reliability.

The Maintenance Exchange Unit service provides a turnkey solution for replacing older protection relay versions no longer in production with the most recent one. This extends the lifetime of the protection solution as well as assures full availability of ABB's life cycle services, translating into less downtime in the end. The service also offers easy adaption to changes in protection requirements and the possibility to add new features and functions. Besides the new addition REX 521, the service includes REF 542plus and RE500 protection relays.

The maintenance exchange unit offers the latest hardware and software but is otherwise identical to the old relay version. The new relay is delivered with the existing
customer-specific settings, making the upgrade to the new version easier than ever. The installation is fast and easy and requires no new wiring and no configuring, which minimizes the shutdown time. Upgrade to a new version of the same, familiar relay is also convenient from an operating and a maintenance perspective.

The service includes delivery of the new relay uploaded with the existing
customer-specific settings, installation and testing, as well as recycling of the old relay. For more information on the Maintenance Exchange Unit service, please visit the Protection relay upgrade page and the REX 521 page.
