QAFCO, Qatar's first large-scale venture in the petrochemical sector, identified the need to maximize production and plant efficiency at the QAFCO3 sub-plant.
ABB, a pioneering technology leader in electrification products, provided a clear risk assessment and engineering services to establish the retrofit priorities in accordance with ABB's life-cycle management (LCM) process.
ABB addressed the customer's needs by proposing the optimal scope of work for the revamping of three strategic 11 kV ABB Univer C air-insulated medium-voltage switchgear units. The revamping included the replacement of all the original HA circuit breakers with HD4 series breakers and the retrofitting of selected protection relays using ABB's Relay Retrofit Program and Relion® 615 series relays.
QAFCO appreciated ABB's professional support, from project tender to project completion, and the prompt and smooth execution during the scheduled shutdown. After the positive completion of the commissioning activities, QAFCO's CTO, Humoud Al-Mannai, said, "Regarding the important work done last year on our 11 kV ABB medium-voltage switchgear, we are really proud to show that QAFCO is a company which maintains its own plant at the best and safest conditions while upgrading its own equipment."
ABB's Medium Voltage Products business unit provides utility, industrial and commercial customers with safe, reliable and smart technologies for the distribution of electricity.
