ABB launches new UniGear Digital Concept

ABB announced the official sales release of the new innovative concept for medium voltage switchgear called UniGear Digital. This new concept is implemented using the well-proven UniGear switchgear. In the initial phase, it is available with the UniGear ZS1 up to 17.5 kV and will be extended throughtout UniGear 12 - 24 kV portfolio.

The UniGear Digital concept results in an advanced switchgear solution addressing important requirements of the future - flexibility, increased process efficiency, lower cost of operation and maximized integration, reliability and safety.

UniGear Digital is accomplished by providing state-of-the-art, well-proven components such as current and voltage sensors, intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) for protection and control and IEC 61850 digital communication.

UniGear Digital Concept highlights:

Safe and reliable
• Less live parts and insulating components
• Extended communication supervision functionality
• Flexible towards grid disturbances

Simple and efficient
• 30 percent quicker delivery time *
• Less variants with only one voltage and two current sensors
needed
• Easier installation, commissioning and testing

Intelligent and ready for the future
• Based on IEC 61850 communication protocol
• Ready for the evolution of the smart grid
• Simple switchboard extension and integration

Lower environmental impact
• Less energy consumption up to 250 MWh **
• Reduced switchgear footprint, no metering panel needed
• Savings of up to 150 tons of CO2 **
* compared to a conventional UniGear ZS1
** compared to a conventional UniGear ZS1 substation of 14 feeders, over 30 years operation
