The IEC 61850-enabled remote I/O unit RIO600 has been extended to include Modbus TCP server functionality and a measurement module with fault passage indication (FPI). The Modbus TCP server can be used in a multitude of applications to connect RIO600 to different RTUs, SCADAs and gateways. The new measurement module is intended for grid automation applications, where RIO600 allows current and voltage measurements from the medium voltage network, utilizing ABB's accurate and lightweight sensor technology. Based on the measured values, RIO600 provides directional fault passage indication and reports it to the upper-level system for faster fault restoration.
RIO600 expands the number of digital and analog inputs and outputs of Relion® protection and control relays in primary and secondary substations. RIO600 can also provide the grid automation controller COM600 with I/Os. Seamless IEC 61850 connectivity with GOOSE for fast real-time communication allows transferring of numerous signals over Ethernet, with simplified and decreased wiring inside the substation as a result.
RIO600 provides the same reliability, performance excellence and realtime functionality as is true for the other Relion protection and control products.
