ABB's technologies enable safe, flexible and smart electrical networks that can deliver power reliably and efficiently. As a part of the ABB Ability™ portfolio of connected solutions, digital switchgear helps our customers gain operational efficiency and brings unprecedented flexibility.
ABB is introducing an addition to the MV digital switchgear offering with the gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) ZX0.2 Digital. This compact GIS is a perfect fit in environments where a reliable power supply must be ensured, remaining unaffected by external influences, such as dust and moisture, and where space is limited. The ZX0.2 Digital is suitable for applications up to 36kV and compliant with the IEC standard.
Digital switchgear is based on the optimized integration of current and voltage sensors into medium-voltage switchgear, combined with the latest Relion® protection and control relays, and the capability of the IEC 61850 standard for communication.
With digital switchgear changes are easy to implement, when electrical loads are changed or added, or a need for adaptation is identified late in the switchgear project. The new generation of switchgear allows for flexibility and expansion of the switchgear line-up without the need for complex additional wiring. Digital switchgear is easily adapted, as changes can be made using software logic in the protection relays, using the concept of interoperability in the IEC 61850 standard for communication.
Digital switchgear combines the latest digital technologies within ABB's well-known and established medium-voltage switchgear and brings increased flexibility, reliability and safety, and additionally reduces switchgear weight, footprint and delivery time. Compared to conventional switchgear, 25 percent less time is needed for installation and commissioning, and with sensor technology safety is further improved during installation and operation.
ABB launched its first MV digital switchgear with air-insulated switchgear (AIS) in 2014, with UniGear Digital.
