EU rules and the Italian legislation require companies to make energy-diagnosis on their systems, production processes or on buildings, or to set up an energy management system ISO 50001.
The commitment to contributing proactively to shape models of sustainable development thanks to increasingly efficient use of energy is an essential step towards the tangible realization of Smart Cities and it has always been a priority for ABB.
Energy efficiency is then a pillar of the cities of tomorrow and companies willing to operate in the field can choose to comply with the European standard UNI CEI 11352 officially recognizing them as Energy Service Company (ESCo).
ABB in Italy was awarded its first certification in 2013 to make interventions aimed at improving energy efficiency in the Oil and Gas and in the Process Industries. Today, another certification for Power Generation industries fosters the extension of its competences in the field of leading Italian companies certified to enhance the energy efficiency of its utility customers.
Getting a certification is not compulsory, but ABB's Power Generation Business Unit desired to offer its customers more integrated and complete services, combining skills and established technologies ranging from data collection and analysis to the implementation of turnkey projects, to financing models measured on the needs of the customer.
Making a site or a production process efficient means to embark on a path to lower costs for customers and greater environmental sustainability for the community, with the guarantee offered by ABB targeted results in the total protection of its customers.

This additional certification of ABB as ESCo therefore integrates with what's already on offer in Service; with an even greater guarantee of results and measurability of the same and performance in line with what is stated in the project and in the contract with the client and prescribed by the rules.
