Line of 3,000-plus connectors is largest available in a 3D design library for electric utility substations
After months of preparatory work, 3D renderings of more than 3,000 Homac® connectors have been loaded into the Substation Design Suite™ library by SBS, giving CAD designers a powerful new tool for modeling their substation projects.
The library entries include a variety of connectors ranging up to 500 kV capacity.
The Substation Design Suite, a product of Spatial Business Systems, Inc., is available to users of Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD Electrical software. Inventor with SDS allows electrical designers and EPCs to pull 3D CAD objects into a 3D virtual environment for substation projects. AutoCAD Electrical users will now benefit from a vastly wider selection of established connector models to help speed the design process.
Once a design is completed, the software can produce a bill of materials for the project that includes part numbers and specifications for each item pulled from the design library.
Homac is a brand of Thomas & Betts, a member of the ABB Group.
Thomas & Betts product managers and engineers worked diligently with SBS personnel to assemble 3D renderings for the Homac connector line, along with the associated specs and part numbers. The result will give customers the ability to readily select the proper connector from the thousands of possibilities. Contact information is also provided should it be necessary to provide a connector model that is not currently in the library.
“This is a major advancement for the hundreds of system designers who produce 3D CAD drawings for substation work,” said Eric Goldberg, U.S. product marketing manager for the Homac and Blackburn® lines. “Connectors are a crucial part of any system, and Homac now has a selection of parts in the library that is extensive enough to solve a very broad array of design challenges.”
