ABB digital solutions to secure enhanced visibility to plant operations for Egyptian petroleum company

ABB is providing its digital low-voltage (LV) switchgear solution to Eshpetco facilities in Hurghada city, Egypt.

Esh El Mallaha Petroleum Company (Eshpetco) is a joint-venture between the Egyptian Government, represented by the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and the Russian LUKOIL company, which specializes in crude oil production. The Eshpetco oil fields are located on the outskirts of Hurghada City, 10 kilometers away from the coastal metropolis, and produce 4,000 barrels of oil per day.

The ABB Ability™ LV Switchgear – MNS® Digital solution was first introduced to the customer during the locally-held annual ABB Ability™ event in 2018. Delivery is planned for early 2020. The customer was impressed by ABB’s sustainable solution, which will help avoid operational failures and associated production losses for many years to come and reduce maintenance costs by up to 30 percent.

“Our cooperation with ABB has really been impressive from day one. Their professional teams have demonstrated high-quality performance and worked hard to meet our requirements and solve our operational challenges, which have been lingering for quite some time. Our selection of this outstanding solution was based on choosing the right brand, the right technology and the right team,” said Alaa El Shenawy, project manager from Eshpetco.

Integrated ABB Ability™ Condition Monitoring for electrical systems (CMES) will enable Eshpetco to have high visibility of what is going on across the locations where the digital switchgear are installed. The CMES provides condition monitoring for preventive maintenance and allows remote supervision. The diagnostics solutions enable increased operation productivity and optimized maintenance costs, resulting in financial and energy savings. Eshpetco will take its operations to the next level, as it will be able to identify potential issues in advance and prevent unplanned shutdowns.

“ABB's innovative digital solutions provide access to real-time data, making predictive maintenance a reality and resulting in significant operational cost savings for our customers,” said Alessandro Palin, Managing Director of ABB Distribution Solutions business line. “ABB Ability™ digital solutions in combination with our well-proven switchgear designs deliver the solid solutions customers have come to expect from us as a digital industry leader.”
