ABB’s first non-frame light switch range wins prestigious Red Dot Award

Xuan Zhi, the first non-frame light switch range developed by ABB LV Installation Materials Co., Ltd. Beijing (CNIIB) has won the coveted Red Dot Design Award, Product Design 2018.

ABB has been recognized in the 2018 Red Dot Awards for its first non-frame light switch range, which was crowned as winner in the Product Design category.

Billed as the Academy Award equivalent for design, the Red Dots are one of the world’s most famous honors for industrial design that recognize the most outstanding products in the world.

Paavo Tammisto, Global Product Group Manager of ABB’s Wiring Accessories said: “We are proud that our innovative approach has been awarded a Red Dot, an internationally recognized quality label for excellent design. This is testament to the collaboration of the ABB team and our understanding of both the Chinese market and our customers’ needs.”

Responding to customer feedback and current trends for panel products, CNIIB launched its first non-frame CWA product series in August 2017, which features a stylish large button design. This gives the product smooth and simple lines with a design that really stands out, making it ideal for the aesthetic needs of high-end clients.

The Xuan Zhi series has a unique ladder shape thanks to its non-frame, arc-shaped switch board and its base dip angle design, inspired by an Ancient Greek temple.

To further enhance aesthetics, the LED indication ensures a soft, warm glow. The integrated mounting board features a mesh reinforcement structure to ensure that, even in harsh installation environments, it will not deform.

For the first time in China, CNIIB has used Rapid Heat Cycle Molding technology and high polishing molds to achieve a glass mirror effect on the surface. This also avoids welding lines, making the product surface smoother, as well as more wear-resistant and environmentally friendly.

In addition, CNIIB is the first to take the lead and use a touch of silver, a rare earth alloy, on CWA products to give switches stronger arc resistance, making them more suitable for LED lamps, which are extremely popular in China.

The series includes switches, sockets, telecommunication outlets, hotel function products and accessories to meet diverse customer needs. It is also available in four elegant colors, including classic white, pearl gold, champagne silver and star black.

Mad. ZhongDan Wang, the Hub BU Manager of Asia Pacific for ABB’s Building Products business, said: “Xuan Zhi series winning the world's highest design award is another success story for global cooperation between the ABB teams from China and Germany.

“The team used its strong knowledge of the Chinese market to develop a stylish and innovative product range that combines great design with strong functionality. We are confident that our recipe of worldwide teamwork will see more ABB products listed in the world hall of fame in the future, as we continue to provide our customers with higher quality products and services."
