ABB collaborate with TEPCO Energy Partner to Improve Power Quality in Japan's Medium Voltage network

Sales collaboration for ABB PCS120 Medium Voltage UPS with TEPCO Energy Partner

Recently, TEPCO Energy Partner Inc. (TEPCO EP) and ABB in Japan have concluded a memorandum of understanding on sales collaboration activities for ABB PCS120 Medium Voltage Uninterruptable Power Supply (PCS120 MV UPS).

In response to the recent surge in power demand for data centers in addition to the demand for industrial loads that require conventional critical power, TEPCO EP will further expand its products and services that promote power quality solutions. Amid the growing need, the company came across ABB PCS120 MV UPS, which employs the world's first static ZISC architecture and is capable of a wide range of power conditioning functionality.

In addition to the power failure and sag protection functions provided by the more conventional PCS100 Medium Voltage UPS, the PCS120 MV UPS has the added value of high efficiency power conditioning by reactive power control, along with the potential for grid support services. This functionality allows the grid voltage to be cleaned and stabilized at medium voltage, allowing consumers to enjoy high quality & high availability premium power. Various parallel configurations of the 2.25MVA product are possible to increase capacity to multi MVA levels. This allows optimized high capacity power protection system design without the need to segregate the protected load into smaller capacity sections in order to meet the capacity limitations of alternative UPS systems.

TEPCO EP, in collaboration with ABB, conducted repeated technical evaluation activities for the product, leading to the technical approval of the product. We are also working together to localize systems suitable for the Japanese market.

"In the age of digital transformation driving increased requirement for premium power, we came across the product we were looking for. Those who have studied electrical engineering can understand the products proposed, but the significance of being able to evaluate the technology by looking at the actual product is significant. We felt the potential for further development," said TEPCO EP, power solution technology group manager, Mr. Ai.

"We are pleased that ABB is able to support the improvement of Japan's power quality with our leading power protection technology. ABB PCS120 MV UPS technology has been recognized by TEPCO EP, which will contribute to making TEPCO EP’s power quality proposals even more valuable" said ABB Japan Representative Director and President, Axel Kuhr.
