GFY Partners with ABB to Add a New Spin to HVLS Fans

Based in Schaumburg, Illinois, Go Fan Yourself® (GFY) was founded in 2014 with a passion to redefine and reinvent the performance of high-volume, low-speed (HVLS) industrial ceiling fans by solving the inherent deficiencies found in current conventional HVLS fan designs.

After spending several years selling another HVLS brand, the founders of GFY knew there was a better, safer, and more efficient alternative. So, they set the goal of developing a better fan. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Enter Z-Tech™ Patented Technology

With the mission defined, GFY engineers took a radical approach to existing HVLS fan designs by applying the scientific principles of aerodynamics and fluid dynamics, resulting in a pitched hub, a unique stepped blade design that created more thrust and air movement, whether it’s turning clockwise or counter-clockwise, while using less energy than any other HVLS fan on the market. With the development of this Z-Tech blade configuration, GFY quickly became the innovative leader in a stagnant HVLS industry.

“We couldn’t be happier with the performance of the Z-Tech fans! They blow a ton of air and outperform your competitor’s fans by a long shot and at a slower speed!” –GFY customer

The Perfect Power Solution

Now that GFY had solved the inherent air movement deficiencies found in other HVLS fans, the next challenge was to connect with a proven manufacturer that could supply the right powertrain and controls while demonstrating a history of efficiency and unmatched reliability. Equally important, GFY was determined to develop a partnership with a company that was as passionate about the success of the Z-Tech fan series as they were. They wanted teammates, not just another vendor. After an extensive search, they chose ABB.

The ABB Difference

ABB variable frequency drive

It takes a special power train and drive to provide the flexibility to run the wide variety of fan configurations GFY offered. From 3 blades to 5 blades in several diameters from 8 to 24 feet, ABB had the gearmotor to power any Z-Tech or Z-Tech3 fan …the tried and true Dodge® Quantis® gearmotor.
