Power distribution technologies support 14km expansion of subway connections to Chongqing city in China

ABB has been chosen to provide low-voltage power distribution solutions for the 2nd phase of Subway Line 6 Branch Line of Chongqing Rail Transit (Group) Co., Ltd. (CRT).

Since 2012, ABB has supplied services to Subway Line 2, 3, 5, 6, 10 and the Circle Line Project of CRT, including improving the reliability and safety of their power distribution system. This has created an accessible rail transit network that carries more than 3 million people each day.

The expansion will accelerate specific further development of the Liangjiang New Area, which was started in 2010.

The technology

In CRT’s Subway Line 6 Branch Line Project, ABB’s latest Emax 2 air circuit breakers, OT switch-disconnectors, S200 miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) and new Tmax XT molded case circuit breakers (MCCBs) were deployed, allowing the customer to make more reliable and easier operation & maintenance efforts.

Integrating such features as system protection, load protection, generator management, energy metering and analysis, Emax 2 can solve the electrical problems that may occur in the power distribution system of rail transit. It can also be efficiently controlled and managed. In addition, it can also meet the future upgrading and scalability needs by adding digital modules.

Expansion

The 2nd phase of branch line of CRT Subway Line 6 is 14.022km long, including underground part of 8.994km, elevated part of 4.901km and subgrade part of 0.127km. It has 7 stations, including 5 underground ones and 2 elevated ones, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2020.

ABB has been supporting Chongqing’s sustainable development with its leading electrification and automation products and solutions, and has participated in many key projects in Chongqing, such as Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, Nanchuan Stadium, the Urban Light Rail Project, and the Chang’an Ford (Chongqing) Factory.
