On October 27, 2020, ABB Beijing Switchgear Limited, an ABB Group joint venture in China, celebrates its 25th anniversary. More than 200 customers and partners from all over the country as well as government officers from Beijing Economic-technological Development Area, reflected on important development milestones and looked towards building an electrified future together.
ABB Beijing Switchgear Limited was established in 1995, and was formerly known as ABB High Voltage Switchgear Co., LTD. On May 2019, as one of the restructuring strategies of ABB Group, the medium voltage unit was separated from ABB High Voltage Switchgear Co., LTD. in the form of a split-off and registered as ABB Beijing Switchgear Limited. Nowadays, ABB Beijing Switchgear Limited has become the leading manufacturer of medium-voltage switchgear in China.
Products are widely used in urban network, buildings, transit system, new energy, light industry, etc., and its business footprint covers 32 provinces and cities in China with products being exported directly to 15 countries and regions. The company participated in many key national projects, including South-to-North Water Diversion, 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, 2016 G20 Hangzhou Summit, 2018 Qingdao SCO Summit, 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games and 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
On the 25th anniversary celebration, ABB grandly launched Safe Digital 2.0, which can be widely applied on electricity, industry, transit system, and other complicated distribution networks, promoting digital transformation in electrification. Safe Digital 2.0 is based on ABB Ability™ cloud technology, using integrated digital applications to monitor the operation status precisely. The new solution will provide assets health management and operation and management advice for customers, which will not only ensure power supply security, but also improve the continuity and reliability of operations, reducing maintenance costs.

Starting with basic product introduction and sales, the business includes a full R&D, manufacturing, sales and engineering services. Product lines cover a complete series of Safe Ring Main Unit (RMU) and cabinet substation solutions from 3.6 kV to 40.5 kV. At the same time, the company has been continuously putting effort in to promoting full value chain localization, which greatly improved competitive advantages of products and satisfied customer demand in a timely manner.”
ABB Beijing Switchgear Limited adheres to the principle of continuous innovation and developed an eco-friendly and digital RMUs.
ABB has been developing and deploying alternatives to the greenhouse gas sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) on the path towards greater eco-efficiency. Safe Air was launched 2015 and uses instead of SF6 Dry Air as an insulation medium. The natural gas has a global warming potential of zero and a lower environmental impact.
Safe Digital 1.0 was launched in 2019 and has first monitoring and diagnostic features. It has been successfully applied on multiple national key projects in China.
