The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) is a multi-national institution in the UK and Australia with a motto to advance chemical engineering’s contribution across multiple industries. Every year the institute hosts the Global Awards to recognize the companies working towards building a sustainable future by implementing chemical engineering insights.
The awards were held virtually amid the global pandemic where IChemE awarded ABB with a “Highly Commended” title in the consultancy services and process safety categories. The consultancy award recognizes the individual, organization or group that best demonstrates the provision of outstanding consultancy services within the chemical engineering community. ABB’s Consulting Services business, primarily based out of the UK, have been helping customers to operate their high hazard process sector plants for more than three decades across the globe.
Spotlight on ABB
ABB has been working to bring technology, digital solutions, software, service and consultancy together in a streamlined one-stop-shop for our customers to deliver safe, smart and sustainable operations. The consulting business supports clients in process safety, asset integrity, engineering, and inspection while lowering process safety risks, improving reliability and increasing operational efficiency. It also takes care of legislative compliance and maintains the integrity with operators to get the most from their capital investment.
“We work with our customers to deliver comprehensive solutions across the full lifecycle of their operations, digitalizing and extending the life of their assets,“ Troy Stewart, Local Division Manager, Energy Industries UK
Under the process safety category, ABB earned the “Highly Commended” title for the ABB AbilityTM Augmented Field Procedures (AFP) software application. The award recognizes the project, process or the product that best demonstrates excellence in process safety.
ABB’s state-of-the-art AFP solution improves safety, reduces unscheduled downtime and increases operational efficiency through augmented and integrated procedures. It is a software application that digitalizes industrial processes and allows for seamless collaboration and execution of procedures, work instructions and checklists.
“Human error continues to be a significant contributing factor to safety issues, as well as production down time. With this solution, it enables collecting data from numerous disparate information sources/systems to enable an operator to be more informed so that they can perform the task more efficiently and safely,” Chris Flower, Digital Lead, Energy Industries UK.
