New crusher duty motor for sawmill in BC

Porcupine Wood Products Ltd, based in Salmo, British Columbia, has a facility consisting of a sawmill with log breakdown line, planer mill and remanufacturing plant. The family owned business has over 25 years of experience in the forest industry.

Porcupine needed replacement for its GE motors and the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) was inclined to go with the same brand. The site’s management stepped in and insisted on ABB Baldor-Reliance motors, because of their long-standing relationship with ABB.

As a result, ABB has won an order for the new 500 HP 586/7 NEMA Crusher-Duty motor and a big lot of Baldor-Reliance Super-E (General Purpose) motors from Porcupine, yet another instance of great collaboration between ABB’s Motion business and Canadian customers.

“This new order for our Baldor motors, in the competitive BC market, shows the excellent relationship we have with businesses because of our reputation for world-class manufacturing, trusted local support, and more than a century of Canadian innovation,” says Mark Gwinnett, ABB Canada Motor Division Lead.

Baldor-Reliance crusher duty motors are designed to meet the demands of tough crushing applications with its oversized bearings and high tensile strength shafting in high shock load applications. The improved performance, reliability and energy efficiency, of these motors helps lower the total cost of ownership. The motors are rated IP66, with severe duty features to keep out moisture and contamination. They feature a high torque NEMA Design A electrical design and are enclosed in a fan cooled cast iron construction, minimizing vibration and bearing temperature for longer life. The Super E motors, featuring NEMA Premium efficiency and a three-year warranty, have been industry leaders in the Canadian market since 1983.

Baldor-Reliance motors can be connected with ABB AbilityTM digital technology where needed, with access to global ABB support.

“ABB is our preferred supplier, thanks to our long-standing trust in their brand and their excellent support team. We look forward to working with them on these and future orders,” said Loren Languille at Porcupine Wood Products
