ABB recognized as pioneer in developing electric vehicle infrastructure in Indonesia

ABB in Indonesia has been recognized for its contribution towards strengthening the country’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem and for supporting the Indonesian government in the acceleration of electric mobility adoption.

The recognition was awarded to ABB by Listrik Indonesia, a prominent local media group. Listrik Indonesia focuses on the energy sector and has been actively promoting the adoption of electric mobility in Indonesia.

ABB was selected as the winner after a stringent assessment by a board of judges comprised of members from the Indonesia Energy Council, Institut Teknologi PLN and electrical engineering industry experts. The assessment considered leading technologies and innovations in the field of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

“ABB offers total solutions across the full e-mobility value chain, from power generation and distribution to connection to the vehicle. Our state-of-the art EV charging solutions are examples of how ABB keeps innovating on technologies that will help our customers and partners pursue their goals toward a low-carbon future” said Dodon Ramlie, Vice President Director of ABB in Indonesia.

Evolution of e-mobility in Indonesia

Indonesia, one of Southeast Asia's largest economies, registers annual car sales of about one million units. The government aims for electric vehicles to make up at least 20 percent of total domestic vehicle sales by 2025, reducing the country's reliance on imported fossil fuels and enabling Indonesia to maximize its abundant nickel reserves, a key material for making lithium-ion batteries.

In 2019, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo signed a presidential regulation (Pepres) No.55/2019 concerning the battery-based electric motor vehicle program for road transportation that will accelerate the development of electric cars in Indonesia. The regulation accentuated the government’s commitment to realize its ambition of becoming a major producer of electric vehicles

ABB – a global e-mobility leader

ABB is a world leader in electric vehicle infrastructure, offering the full range of charging and electrification solutions for electric cars, electric and hybrid buses as well as for ships and railways. ABB entered the e-mobility market back in 2010, and today has sold more than 400,000 electric vehicle chargers across more than 85 markets; over 20,000 DC fast chargers and 380,000 AC chargers, including those sold through Chargedot. Its commitment to driving progress in e-mobility is shown most clearly through the title partnership with the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. From Season 9, in 2022-23, ABB will become official charging supplier to the championship.

In Indonesia, ABB has successfully installed two DC fast chargers for BPPT in Serpong, West Java and for the PLN Distribution Unit of Jakarta in its head office in Gambir, Jakarta, in 2018 and 2019 respectively. ABB also showcases a charging unit at the WTC office complex at the heart of Jakarta’s business district, where ABB’s Indonesian head office is located. Last year, ABB has also installed ABB’s home charging AC Wallbox for Verde Two Apartment, the first apartments in Indonesia with electric vehicle charging infrastructure for use by residents. These efforts by ABB have provided strategic support to the government’s effort to adopt smart, reliable and emission-free mobility solutions.
