In August, we completed a challenging project with Aviatest, a customer specializing in test bench production for Aerospace industry. Together with ABB products, a test bench was manufactured for the Italian company Avio Aero, which is going to be used for helicopter main speed reducer load testing. "The customer chose us because ABB has been a good partner in previous projects, technical support during the predesign and commissioning stages," said Nikita Petrovs, ABB Latvia's Motion business manager.
ABB supplied the Multidrive frequency converter and three M3BP motors as a part of the project in cooperation with ABB Finland, as well as the control system from ABB's process automation unit in Latvia.
ABB was able to provide the customer with a precise control of the motors that is required for fragile product testing. ABB's solution is also energy efficient. "System uses electrical loop where the generated power from load motors is recirculated to the supply side of the loadable motors as a result system with installed 1,2 MW mechanical power consumes only 200kW electrical power from the grid," added Nikita Petrovs.
Aviatest, a research and testing center within the LNK Aerospace Department, specializes in field testing of aeronautics (aircraft, helicopters and their aggregates). The center also tests aeronautical equipment (aircraft hydraulic lifters, torque benches, etc.) and various building structures. Aviatest is the only research and test center in the Baltic countries with extensive experience in the field of aeronautical engineering testing.
