- Annual rankings assess corporate policies supporting LGBTQ+ workplace equality
- ABB earned a score of 90, with top marks in workforce protections, equitable benefits and corporate social responsibility
- The company has introduced new policies and training progams to support an inclusive culture
ABB earned a score of 90 out of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2022 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality. Ranked along with more than 1,200 major U.S. businesses, ABB’s participation signals its belief that a culture of diversity and equal opportunity is critical to business success and a commitment to prioritizing inclusiveness in the workplace.
“At ABB we’re building safe, fair, equitable and inclusive working environments where our people can succeed and develop,” said Michael Gray, ABB’s Country Holding Officer, U.S. “We continue to strive for a culture that welcomes and celebrates the diverse individuals working to provide transformative solutions for some of the world’s greatest challenges. Reports like the 2022 CEI helps us identify opportunities for growth as we pursue diversity of all dimensions across our global organization.”
Participation in the CEI suvey and report supports the company’s D&I Strategy 2030, an initiative designed to expand the scope of ABB’s inclusiveness policies and practices. Through this strategy – built on a three-pillar model of governance, inclusive leadership and culture, and partnerships – ABB has introduced new resources and practices including a gender and identity expression policy and LGBTQ+ awareness training for all new hires.
The CEI rates employers providing LGBTQ-friendly workplace policies to over 20 million U.S. workers and an additional 18 million outside of the U.S. The 2022 CEI saw growth across every measurement category, with rankings based on detailed criteria falling under four central pillars:
- Non-discrimination policies across business entities;
- Equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families;
- Supporting an inclusive culture; and,
- Corporate social responsibility.
“When the Human Rights Campaign Foundation created the Corporate Equality Index 20 years ago, we dreamed that LGBTQ+ workers—from the factory floor to corporate headquarters, in big cities and small towns—could have access to the policies and benefits needed to thrive and live life authentically,” said Jay Brown, Human Rights Campaign Senior Vice President of Programs, Research and Training. “We are proud that the Corporate Equality Index paved the way to that reality for countless LGBTQ+ workers in America and abroad. But there is still more to do, which is why we are raising the bar yet again to create more equitable workplaces and a better tomorrow for LGBTQ+ workers everywhere.”
