ABB selected by Shell to provide High Performance Charging stations for Shell-Recharge in Thailand

  • The Shell-Recharge High Performance Charging site launched in Bangyai, Nonthaburi, is the first of eleven Shell EV fast charging stations planned in Thailand
  • Shell, in partnership with Porsche Asia Pacific, selected ABB’s EV charging solutions for their reliability and advanced technological developments
  • Charging solutions supplied by ABB will include the Terra 184 and Terra 360, capable of delivering 100km of range in less than three minutes

Shell, in partnership with Porsche Asia Pacific, has announced the launch of the first Shell-Recharge High Performance Charging (HPC) site in Bangyai, Nonthaburi. The launch marks the start of the construction of eleven Shell stations, creating a network throughout Thailand.

All Shell-Recharge stations in Thailand will be equipped with ABB’s market-leading 180 kW and 360 kW DC chargers, offering the fastest public charging capacity in the country and enabling seamless emission-free travel from the southern province of Songkhla, to the northern province of Chiang Mai.

Due to Porsche Asia Pacific’s joint investment in the project, new Porsche Taycan owners in Thailand will receive a complimentary Premium membership for three years, granting them a 50% discount on charging costs in addition to other benefits at the Shell HPC site.

“We are proudly supporting Shell and Porsche in this amazing journey to power Thailand’s first high-performance charging station for electric vehicles at Shell-Recharge in Nonthaburi” said Gianandrea, Country Commercial Director at ABB Thailand. “The Shell Recharge network of High-Performance Charging stations will help to meet growing demand for EV charging infrastructure from consumers and further accelerate future e-mobility adoption across the country.”

The ABB Terra 184 DC fast charger has now been switched on and is ready to charge at the Shell-Recharge Station in Bang Yai. It is compatible with most EVs and can charge an average electric car from 10 to 80 percent within 30 minutes.

Thanks to its compact, modular design, the ABB Terra 184 can perform optimally even within the confined environment of a petrol station and is an ideal fit for retail, highway or fleet use, with power sharing to further optimize utilization. Furthermore, through ABB Ability™ connected services, the company’s advanced digital management solution, chargers can be connected to back offices, payment platforms or smart grids. Charger status monitoring, remote diagnostics, repair, and over-the-air software updates also help to minimize downtime and keep running costs low.
