ABB Estonia opens a factory automation workshop

ABB Estonia opened a new factory automation workshop for robot line assembly to meet the growing customer demand for engineered solutions. The unit assembles solutions designed by ABB based on customers’ orders, one specific component of those being a robot or robots. The first order to be completed will be a robot station for the ABB Finland’s drives factory.

"The demand for ready-made robot lines is growing both globally as well as in Estonia," said Jukka Patrikainen, Managing Director of ABB Baltics. “Robotization is the future of manufacturing, and the realization that robotization can increase the chances of success in the manufacturing industry has been firmly established also in this area. We are delighted to be able to be a professional partner here for Estonian industrial companies, having full readiness to execute turn-key projects.”

The workshop will carry out all the necessary works on site, from the design and construction of the robot line to the final testing. ABB's own RobotStudio software models the future solution as a 3D model to make sure it meets the customer's needs in terms of speed, accuracy and scope. The line is then assembled and testing is performed.

"The new robot line workshop gives us the ability to be faster and more flexible," says Leho Kuusk, ABB's head of country sales and service unit. “Thanks to the workshop located on our own territory, we can quickly make customer-specific upgrades and improvements in our own premises. This is a significant time gain for the customer. After testing, the line will be disassembled and thereafter set up at the customer’s production facility.”

The first robot line built in the workshop is for ABB Finland’s Drives factory. Delivery  includes conveyors, automatic screwdrivers, IRB 2600 robot, programming and commissioning. For ABB Finland's Drives factory, the project is part of the production automation process that will increase productivity and improve work quality. The result is reduced production costs and lead times, increased productivity and flexibility, and improved ergonomics and safety in assembly work.
