ABB and Ramboll to collaborate on offshore substation development

  • ABB and Ramboll sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly pursue new prospects within offshore substations
  • ABB to focus on design and supply of electrical, automation and telecommunications equipment
  • Ramboll to focus on integration and engineering services in development, design, specification, construction, maintenance, and operation

ABB and Ramboll have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on pursuing new prospects for offshore substations within the global offshore wind market. The companies’ combined strengths in energy, offshore, construction, operation and maintenance not only bring credibility for EPC contractors offering services for substations, but also enable an alternative solution for the developers who want to increase competition on fabrication.

“We look forward to a fruitful cooperation with Ramboll,” says Per Erik Holsten, Managing Director of ABB in Norway. “The agreement with Ramboll is set to advance generation and transmission of renewable energy from offshore wind farms, crucial for the energy transition to net-zero.”

"This partnership supports our ambition of becoming a global leader in the green energy transition and shares the importance of well-designed and engineered offshore substations for the development of offshore wind. We look forward to our collaboration and contribution to a more sustainable energy system", adds Patrick Gilly, Global Director, Energy Transition at Ramboll.

ABB will contribute with its expertise in design and supply of electrical, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), automation, and telecommunications equipment, including engineering, products, installation, commissioning, and operational maintenance of such equipment.

Ramboll will contribute with its proven expertise in engineering services in development, design and specification, construction, maintenance, and operation, including disciplines of structural, piping, mechanical & layout, process, and technical safety, electrical, SCADA, automation, and telecommunication systems.

The initial agreement is valid up to five years and facilitates collaboration on a case-to-case basis.
