At the 25th anniversary celebration of ABB Xiamen Low Voltage Equipment Co., Ltd. (ABB Xiamen Low Voltage factory) held today, ABB released four new smart power distribution products to support customers’ digital transformation in utility, industry, transport and infrastructure. These four new products showcased the latest technologies and important breakthroughs made by ABB Xiamen ABB Low Voltage factory in smart and reliable power.
The fourth industrial revolution and the energy revolution are driving changes in electrification. Increasingly complex distribution networks have placed higher demands on digitization and automation. ABB AbilityTM digital offerings, connect advanced switchgear and circuit breakers with digital sensors to cloud computing and software, enabling the convergence of operational technologies and information technologies to make distribution networks smarter, more flexible, more reliable and more efficient.
- The ABB PCS100 AVC active voltage conditioner is an efficient and reliable solution for sag correction. Providing fast, accurate voltage sag and surge correction as well as continuous voltage regulation, the AVC has been designed to protect loads from power fluctuations and disturbances. Unlike traditional solutions, the AVC adopts advanced power electronics technology and requires no batteries, reducing maintenance costs and improving operation efficiency and reliability.
- ABB Ability™ Condition Monitoring for electrical systems (CMES) is an innov ative on-site monitoring platform. It enables switchgear operators and plant maintenance managers to monitor and manage electrical distribution systems and motor control centers via smartphone, tablet or computer in real time to optimize maintenance and operational costs and energy consumption. Cloud connectivity options complete the solution offering. The condition monitoring solution enables predictive capabilities that reduce the downtime needed for maintenance and enables users to reduce operational costs.
- With ABB’s innovation DNA, the Emax 2 low-voltage air circuit breaker provides customers with a better power distribution management experience. The Emax 2 has a built-in measuring module that sharply improves energy measurement accuracy to the Level 1 measurement accuracy of IEC 61557-12, which greatly saves system costs, space and installation time.
- The ABB Emax 2 / E9 air circuit breaker is designed for wind power and photovoltaic power generation applications. It can be applied in 900V AC system and high-altitude environments, and is the smallest, yet highest performance product on the market. It can reduce the size of switchgear by 30 percent and can be configured with various communication protocol modules, but also be directly connected to the ABB Ability™ Electrical Distribution Control System (EDCS) cloud platform for remote management.
“ABB is committed to the development of innovations to help China achieve a safer, smarter more sustainable future,” said James Zhao, lead business manager of ABB Electrification in China. “The introduction of these new products will help our customers become more energy efficient and help them reduce their operating costs.”
ABB's innovative technology and digital solutions have been successfully deployed in many projects. For example, ABB works closely with Sinoma International to help it go global. Since 2006, ABB has provided nearly 10,000 panels of MNS® low-voltage switchgear for many overseas projects of Sinoma International; besides, ABB has provided low-voltage Emax 2 circuit breakers for Shanghai Hongkou Football Stadium and upgraded the ABB Megamax circuit breakers in service. In the project, the ABB Ability EDCS was also adopted and connected to a set of Emax 2 retrofit kits, allowing engineers to perform predictive maintenance on the system, track the life cycle curve of the distribution equipment, and achieve intelligent operation.
