One of the unique features and greatest strengths of P14 is its fully redundant high-speed and deterministic remote bus communication. All process signal changes are available in real-time for each process station in the system. This enables related process control functions to be located either together in one station, or distributed between several stations. The process stations are connected via redundant communication modules to the remote bus based on the FDDI (Fiber Distributed Data Interface) token ring network according to ISO9314 1-3. Optical fiber cables are used for the connections. These are insensitive to electromagnetic interference and can transmit data over distances of up to 2,000 m between stations, and at a high data transfer rate of 100 Mbit/s. Maximum network sizes of up to 100 km can be achieved.
Specific communication modules are available for connecting P14 to the HMI and engineering systems, as well as external control systems and automation devices.
