ABB has been awarded a contract from Saigon Ban Mai Commercial Company Limited, to retrofit an obsolete Alsthom – Jeumont Cegelec control system for the 2 x 33 MW Vinh Son hydropower plant, located at Binh Dinh central province’s Vinh Thanh mountainous districts of Vietnam. Operated by Vinh
Son-Song Hinh Hydropower Joint Stock Company, which is the second largest electric company in Vietnam by capitalization, the plant helps to mitigate the tight power supply situation in the area. ABB will be responsible for complete design, engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of the Symphony™ Plus control system, based on the HPC800 controller, the latest of Symphony Plus family.
Utilizing the best-in-class technology, our distributed control system (DCS) seamlessly integrates all of the subsystems of unit control such as the turbine, generator, power transformer and unit auxiliaries, plant control inclusive of common plant auxiliaries, HV switchyard, spillway, intake and other hydraulic
systems, and complex control functions, such as joint control, cascade control, flood and river control, plant frequency control, reactive and active power control into a centralized unit control center. The unit control center combines superior control strategies and a common, intuitive operator interface for reliable and consistent operation.
ABB will also provide an integrated historian for a reliable total
plant diagnostic and operations optimization as well as business data storing and archiving to the power plant. Upon completion, the customer will have the latest technology where the benefits include advanced information analysis, greater plan design flexibility, improved process control and asset reliability and improved operation and maintenance efficiency. This will be the latest state-of-the-art Symphony Plus project installed in Vietnam based on HPC800 controller. The overall planned production of the plant will not be affected by the shutdown during the retrofit period.
The project is scheduled to be completed by September 2014.
