S100 I/O for Advant MOD 300 DCS

ABB S100 I/O for Advant MOD 300 DCS, a racked-based I/O system for Advant Controller 410 and Advant Controller 460.

The S100 I/O system is available for the Advant Controller 400 Series. The S100 direct I/O system consists of I/O modules with 4 to 32 channels, depending on type, which are placed in the I/O subracks.

S100 I/O consists of one or more I/O racks with several I/O boards, connection units and cables covering a wide variety of applications and specific needs. The I/O boards are divided into groups, depending on their function. Within each group, there are several I/O boards with differing functionality and complexity.

The Advant Controller 410 includes an integral S100 I/O rack, while the Advant Controller 450 interfaces up to five S100 I/O sub-racks through a single or redundant interface module and cables. Optical modems enable remote location of S100 I/O sub-racks.

Variants are also available for integration of Intrinsic Safety Modules as well as HART Multiplexers.

ABB maximizes your system investment and provides an evolution path forward for your ABB DCS. This is achieved by designing control systems for continuous evolution and by providing service offerings that extend the life cycle and improve the availability and performance of systems in the ABB portfolio and beyond.

S100 I/O FCI for Ethernet
A new Ethernet-based solution to connect S100 I/O to AC 800M controllers when evolving from Advant Controller 450 (Master) and Advant Controller 460 (MOD 300) controllers is now available. The new Ethernet communications interface solution includes an Ethernet FCI module (CI846) hosted by a new termination unit (TU866) and connects to System 800xA’s AC 800M controllers via the already available PROFINET CI871A module.

This solution is supported in System 800xA versions 6.2, 6.1.1.1*, and 6.1.1.2* as well as Compact Control Builder 6.2. * Note: Additional Control Software updates are required for AC 800M. For more information contact your ABB sales contact.

Overview
Application

The range of S100 I/O modules is complete, consisting of general- purpose binary and analog inputs and outputs and special interfaces for special tasks. S100 I/O is connected to the controller via a bus extension cable (max. length 12 m (39 ft.). The optical bus extension available, makes it possible to distribute the I/O up to 500 m (1640 ft). For increased availability the extension cable can be redundant.

Product Features:

  • An extensive range of binary and analog modules, easy to configure
  • Redundant I/O Digital and Analog.
  • Pulse counting, frequency measuring, positioning, electronic weighing, speed control of motors
  • Hot replacement of all I/O modules
  • High EMC level, meeting the requirements of the EC directives 89/336/EEC and 73/23/EEC.
  • Comprehensive self-diagnostics
  • On-board processing capabilities such as time tagging, event handling, filtering and gain control.
  • Supports transparent I/O- power– and bus extension redundancy
  • Modularity, allowing step-by-step expansion
  • Reliability and auto-diagnostics. LED indicators on each module and channel
  • All outputs can be individually set to freeze or to take on predefined values at fault conditions

The S100 I/O field wiring is connected to connection units, which are connected via standard cables to the S100 I/O boards. I/O boards can be exchanged while the system is running and new boards can be inserted live. A newly inserted board is taken into operation within 10 seconds. Local time tagging on input boards is available, providing a time resolution of 1ms. Dual boards and a special connection unit make a redundancy configuration, achieving a high degree of availability. The output in such configurations is supervised by the output signals through dedicated analog inputs on the board. Support for Intrinsic Safety isolators is available.

Application programs have access to process signals via so called data base (DB) elements. DB-elements also hold all I/O system configuration information. Configuring the I/O system involves filling in DB elements with parameters for each module and channel. Typical parameters are tag name, signal range, filter time, etc. Analog values are automatically converted to process-related engineering units, relieving the application programmer from all considerations about scaling.

Analog and binary input modules in S100 I/O are scanned cyclically, the cycle being possible to synchronize with the application program (PC) execution. For binary input modules interrupt-controlled updating of the DB element can be optionally selected. Outputs are the updated immediately after the PC execution has finished, if value has been changed. For regulatory control this means that within one scan cycle, analog input is read, the control algorithm executed and the resulting output is presented on the output terminals.
