The client operates a number of pharmaceutical manufacturing and research facilities worldwide. They had a vision to be recognized as an industry leader in the area of energy management.
This was underpinned by a corporate commitment to achieve a reduction of 20 % in GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions by 2012.
To meet this challenge, ABB Engineering Services were selected as a strategic partner to provide the resources and complementary expertise to support a global utilities operational assessment program.
ABB Engineering Services provided an assessment of utility assets and operating practices across the customer’s utilities network.
The aims were to:
- Ensure cost effective delivery of safe, −− reliable and high quality utility services
- Share the learning of best practice across the network
A total of 12 assessments were performed, focusing on the larger manufacturing and research facilities in the Americas, Europe and Asia. The assessments encompassed an analysis of both the technical and operational practices associated with utility supply and demand management.
The opportunity portfolio included energy saving projects within the following areas:
- Steam, boiler feed water and condensate
- Compressed air
- Cogeneration
- Chilled water / refrigeration
- HVAC
- Cooling towers / water treatment
- Electricity supply and distribution
The customer’s assessment program drew on ABB’s global experience in energy efficiency and its methodology for Industrial Energy Efficiency, as well as its subject matter expertise in the following areas:
